History
Founded in 1977 in Roslindale by a dedicated dog lover, The Continental Shoppe had its humble beginnings as a "dog barbershop." Founder Jack Kennedy's passion for pampering pets and fostering a sense of community around his love for dogs drove the shop's early years.
In a pioneering move, Jack introduced a unique van service that transported dogs from various neighborhoods, offering them a day of grooming and care before safely returning them home in the evening. This personal touch endeared him to the community, with dogs happily traveling all over town in his company.
In 2007, adversity struck when a nearby restaurant fire damaged the shop. However, Jack's unwavering determination and commitment to the community led him to continue grooming dogs, using a pet grooming van parked outside the charred shop. This incident prompted a rebranding and modernization, further showcasing the shop's resilience and adaptability.
